RECORDINGS

FIELD

Exhibition Open 27.06 - 28.07.25

Vernissage 26.06.25, 18:00

Rooted in the language of sound composition, the term field recording refers to capturing ambient, uncurated fragments of the everyday. Julia Rehme translates this approach into a visual practice, one that draws its material not from sound but from the overlooked surfaces of urban life.

She collects textures and traces, worn pavement, torn posters, incidental marks shaped by weather, use and time. They act as openings, as quiet starting points in a process that resists resolution.. Working on unprimed canvas, Rehme allows each surface to absorb gesture directly. The paintings unfold slowly, through layering, erasure and return. There is no fixed outcome, only a conversation between memory, material and mark.

Field Recordings is both a method and a way of seeing. It reflects an attention to what is partial, broken or unresolved, and how these remnants can shape something new.

The exhibition opens on Thursday 26 June at 18:00 at Aia Contemporary, V Jirchářích 1285/12, Prague 1.

All are welcome.
