Andrea Kopecká
Based in Bratislava, Slovakia, Andrea bridges the worlds of contemporary painting, tattooing, and permaculture design. For her, human skin, the textile of a canvas, and the crust of our earth are the exact same thing: living, fragile surfaces defined by layers of memory, time, and trauma.
Working with a unique 'liquid erosion' technique, Andrea treats her canvases like living tissue. She applies heavy, structured textures (the touch) only to forcefully wash them away with water (the purge). What remains on her canvases are beautiful, fluid scars and cracked patterns that look like macro-shots of skin cells or aerial topographies of eroding landscapes.
"The situation on the image is always in a re-forming stage without a firm foundation," Andrea notes. "These fluid, disrupted landscapes adapt to new conditions made by harsh or gentle processes, and it is essential for us to think and care about the outcome we influence."
