JULIA REHME
Exhibition - Field Recordings
Julia Rehme (b. 1984, Germany) is a visual artist living and working in Leipzig. Her work focuses on abstract painting, with a strong emphasis on gesture, material, and process. Influenced by Abstract Expressionism and Art Informel, she uses fluid paint, oil pastel, and a range of unconventional tools on raw or aged surfaces. Her compositions emerge through a direct and intuitive approach, often beginning with a single mark and unfolding into layered visual structures.
For fourteen years, Rehme worked as a tattoo artist. She co-founded NOÏA Berlin, a studio focused on contemporary tattooing, where she developed an abstract and improvisational approach. The physical immediacy of tattooing continues to inform her current work on canvas.
Rehme studied design at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover.
