STANO TMA
Stano Tma is a Prague-based artist who, after more than a decade of tattooing, has developed a distinctive abstract approach centered on repetition, gesture, and placement. Combining dense, tremulous lines with geometric forms and greywash, he creates compositions that evoke natural patterns or the textures left behind by woodworms. Designs are mostly applied freehand and sometimes improvised directly on skin, embodying a process that prioritizes intuition over precision.
This fascination with raw, organic form extends into his textile work, where punch-needle stitching produces irregular, layered shapes on canvas. Minimal planning and an acceptance of mistakes guide these embroidered pieces, allowing each line to influence what follows. Across these different media, surface becomes an active participant, shaped through contact, repetition, and time.
In addition to his visual practice, Tma occasionally publishes small-run zines, including Hills, a linocut printed reflection on childhood and memory. He is also co-founder of Black Rabbit Studio, a tattoo studio in Prague. Whether working with thread, ink, or machines, he remains committed to letting form emerge through process rather than control.
