DADA
Dada (Špela Kobal) is a visual artist living and working on the Karst plateau in Slovenia. Her practice is grounded in making, with an emphasis on process rather than outcome. Attention to each action shapes what appears on the surface.
She describes the moment a blank canvas stops being blank, when the first shape appears. From that point, decisions accumulate. Painting develops through how empty space is treated, with restraint playing a central role.
Dada graduated in 2011 from the Department of Fine Arts at the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor. After her studies, she devoted several years to tattooing, a practice that enabled a nomadic way of living. Alongside painting, she has worked across printmaking and sculpture, maintaining a sustained engagement with making over time.
